A lovely Spanish apartment, ideally located for visiting the Alhambra Palace and historic attranctions & 35 mins to skiing. |
Description of Apartment: |
Fully furnished for 6 persons.
Our apartment is superbly located in the beautiful traditional Spanish village of Monachil, with the bus stop just a 3 minute walk away, the bus takes you 5 miles into the centre of Granada. The skiing of the Sierra Nevada is also close by, with a 35 minute drive round the mountain to the ski lift at Pradollano Sierra Nevada.
The apartment itself although very moden in design has some traditional terocotta floor tiles and window rejas. We even have a coffee maker and hairdryer, fully euipped kitchen with halogen hob and fitted oven allowing you to cook full dinners should you choose. We even have a small utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
It has plenty of heating, and is quite cosy for the chilly winter nights after a days skiing!
Bedroom 1 = extra large kingsize bed (IKEA) and single foldaway bed Bedroom 2 = 3 single beds (including a set of bunk beds) - again IKEA
We have included the things that we like, such as feather duvets, stainless steel cutlery, and we include all bedlinen and towels.
Monachil is a village settlement nesteled within the mountains, very typcal of a Spanish village. Our apartment is located in one of the oldest and characteristic lanes in the village. You can walk to many tapas bars, restaurants, banks, little shops and boutiques. There is a lovely patiserie just 10 minutes walk away "de dulce", and a huge supermarket selling fresh fish, meat, and produce and huge selection of wines and beers is just 15 minutes walk. There is another superb restaurant "El Capricho" just 10 minutes walk as well. All the restaurants here are extremely good value, as there is very little tourism in this village, making amenities open all year round for the locals that live here.
Skiing
Monachil is at the foot of the Sierra Nevada ski mountain, which is 35 minutes drive round the mountain to the ski lift at Pradallano. There is a large underground car park here, as driving is the most common way to visit. The roads to the resort are very good. Sierra Nevada is Europes southern most resort, and is very modern in design and faciliities, and caters for children and adults, beginners and advanced. It is the 2nd highest main resort in Europe, with superb snowfall, due to it being a high resort. The ski resort is cheaper than some of the most common resorts in Europe. We were here on 8 Dec (a Spanish holiday), plenty of skiing, and so busy that we had to park on the side of the road as all spaces had been taken. Sierra Nevada is a fantastic resort for children as well.
Children are very welcome... We have children of our own (4 and 7 2006!) and we have tried to be as child friendly as possible and include the essentials, for example: bath mat!, plastic cutlery, plates and cups, toys, highchair and travel cot are available on request. We also have a DVD player, so do remember those favourite films!
Low cost airlines to Malaga (1 hour 30 mins),or many airlines to Granada (20 minutes). RYANAIR flies from London Stansted, East Midlands and Birmingham direct.
Booking conditions £150 deposit on reservation is required, with the full balance being due 10 weeks before departure.

Dear Linda,
We had a wonderful time in the Granada area and truly enjoyed the use of the apartment. We viewed sites and otherwise experienced the city on two of our days there. One day we went up to the Alpujarra region, on another we visited the coast and swam in the Mediterranean, and on our last day we climbed Pico Valeta. After those more distant excursions it was especially nice to return to the comfort of the apartment and prepare a meal there.
I hope conditions were found to be satisfactory in the apartment after we left. I trust you will let us know if it is believed we caused a problem. The only little thing we found not working there was the latch on the bathroom door, which was stuck. It was a bit hot there at times, and a small fan would have been helpful. Other than that, my family found the place quite charming and admired the layout, construction, and the clever use of space. We loved looking out from the top of the stairs at night. We thought the fresh produce and the breads that we could buy in the community were of great quality.
So the Monachil apartment definitely played a role in a trip that has been a privilege and a fine experience for our family. Thank you.
Sincerely, Jennifer Hammond

Dear Linda, I dont know where to begin! We had such an amazing time in Spain - and your apartment was at the the heart of it. It was perfect for our family. Your directions were perfect. Due to weather and flight cancellations we finally arrived in Monachil at 1 a.m. the first day! Driving from Malaga in the night - more than a little exhausted- we did not get lost at all. The pictures - especially of the new construction - really helped. The town of Monachil was delightful and a wonderful way to get off the beaten tourist track and actually interact with locals in a more natural way. The town was a perfect size for exploring on foot and the proximity of the shops made grocery shopping a snap. The bakery was awesome - we made several trips there. Getting in and out of Granada was effortless. The 181 bus was a easy and cabs were inexpensive and plentiful. We did have a rental car that required some creativity for parking - but we only used for trips to Sevilla and Malaga and getting to and from the airport. The apartment is a perfect base for exploring southern Spain. We took an overnight trip to Sevilla and then went on a day trip via ferry to Morocco. It was a lot to do in less than 48 hours. When we returned that night to the apartment, my husband sat down on the sofa and said "Its good to be home." That is exactly how it felt. The codes for the main door and the safe worked well. We never took the keys out with us - just left them in the box so we did not need to worry about losing them. We never did meet Maria. We hope the apartment was left in an agreeable condition. We would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Granada. We will keep you in mind for future trips. Regards, Arlene Perkkio |
