Restored old stone village house with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a small balcony, two fireplaces |
Description of Townhouse: |
A restored old stone house in the village of Albondón, Granada, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a small balcony, a fireplace in the lounge and a bread oven in the kitchen. As much of the original character as possible has been maintained, including wooden beams throughout the house and much of the original floor tiling. The décor is simple and rustic.
The main door on the ground floor opens on to a small foyer, with a double bedroom to the right. Directly in front, under the stairs, are a WC and shower.
The stairs lead up to a brightly lit, east-facing open-plan lounge, which incorporates the fireplace of the original kitchen. The balcony has views of the hillsides and down to the sea. Off the lounge are two single bedrooms.
Leading through to the back of the house is a passageway suitable as a small sitting room. The main bathroom is off to one side. The fully fitted kitchen, with its working bread oven, and the attached dining room, are to the back. The kitchen door leads to the side street. There is a utility area with washer and dryer, and a gas heater provides unlimited supplies of hot water. |

Facilities: |
Albondón, with about 1,000 inhabitants, is 900 metres above sea level on the south flank of the Sierra de la Contraviesa. It has views south to the Mediterranean, with the small beach resort of La Rábita only 12 kilometres away.
To the north, passing through the Alpujarras, and located about 25 kilometres away in the Sierra Nevada, is Trevéles, the most highly situated town in Spain.
Albondón is still a working village that is only now being really discovered. Like so many of Andalucía’s white villages, it is a warren of narrow streets. Its surrounding hillsides are studded with almond and olive orchards, and vineyards. There are a couple of small supermarkets, several bars, all of which serve food; two bakeries, a butcher, a chemist and a family practice doctor in the mornings. There are also bodegas, an olive press and a church.
The beauty of holidaying in Albondón is that it offers tranquility and a chance to relax, but with no shortage of activities within easy reach. The Alpujarras are one of the most popular trekking areas in Spain. There is also horseback riding and cycling, and a full range of water sports at La Rábita and other beach towns. There is also no shortage of fresh fish to be found in restaurants along the coast, as well as at the mornings-only fishmonger just off the church square.
Albuńól, 10 minutes to the south, and Cádiar, about 25 minutes to the north, are good-sized towns with a full range of shopping facilities, bars, restaurants and banks.
Almería´s international aiport is a 65-minute drive. Alternatives are Málaga and Granada, both about 90 minutes away.
