Description of Villa:
Can Capella is a grand villa located in the beautiful village of Viladrau in Montseny Natural Park, Catalonia, Spain. Built for Spanish nobility in the Modernista style at the turn of the century, it has recently been restored and offers excellent accommodation for large families and business groups. The property sleeps up to 12 and is available for weekly rental. The house was designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch for the aristrocratic newspaper and publishing magnets, the Godo brothers. Built at the turn of the century and originally named Villa Gloria, the house was used to host lavish summer parties and weddings for the extended Godo family. Later, in times of national and international conflict, it was an important headquarters for regional control and even sheltered Marshall Tito after fighting in Galicia. In the second half of the 20th century it was owned by the Capella family until 2004 when it was purchased by its present owners and restored to its original glory using traditional methods and original materials. The house sits in its own secure walled grounds with parking for several cars childrens play area with slide and swings. Private 8m x 4m swimming pool (note for parents: shallow end 1.5m deep) extensive south facing terraces barbeque and outside dining 2 minute walk to village centre, which has numerous restaurants & cafes, three bakers, butchers and general stores. There is a fully equipped kitchen next to a grand entertaining area comprising, lounge and dining. Also on this level are a large secondary lounge/library, a separate media/kids room with CD audio, DVD and UK satellite TV and a cloakroom. The house has five large bedrooms on the second floor, three with double beds (two of which have ensuite access) and two with pairs of single beds. Two extra single beds can easily be accommodated in the largest bedroom, if required. There is a shower room ensuite to 2 double bedrooms and a further bathroom on the second floor. Viladrau is located in Catalonia just an hour from Barcelona, the Mediterranean coast and the ski resorts of the Pyrenees, see map. The village is famous for its beautiful scenery, dry mountain air and pure spring water and is in Montseny Natural Park which has been designated by UNESCO, a world biosphere reserve. Viladrau has traditionally been a place where wealthy Bacelonians and Spanish Royalty would spend their summers in grand villas, of which Can Capella is one of the grandest. Viladrau is easily accessed by road or air and is thirty minutes drive from Girona Airport and one hour from Barcelona Airport. The house, Can Capella sits conveniently just 200m from the village main square and the full range of local amenities, cafes and bars. EATING OUT Viladrau has a range of bars, cafes and restaurants centred around the picturesque town square. Just outside the village the very best Catalan cuisine can be found at Mas dOsor. WALKING, TREKKING and CYCLING Viladrau is famous for its healthy mountain air and mineral water springs. It is located next to the protected beauty of Montseny Natural Park, so there are wonderful walks and cycle tracks in and around the mountains to suit all abilities and tastes. The Park can be explored with guidance from the Centre Cultural Europeu de la Natura de Viladrau, located in the village. POLO and HORSERIDING Other outdoor activities include polo and horse riding at Sant Antoni Polo Club: GOLF Golfers are particularly well served at the nearby course, Montanya Golf Club. FOREST ADEVENTURE PARK Discover the forest in a new way, from above! at la Selva de lAventura, located just outside Viladrau (not for very young children). CITIES and BEACHES For city shopping, dining and sightseeing there is Vic, 15 mins. away, with its magnificent Romano Gothic square and of course Barcelona, one hour by car or train. The rugged Cost Brava coast is one hours drive with its beautiful beach coves and idyllic unspoilt seaside towns, such as Calella de Palafrugell, Aiguablava, Tamariu, Sa Tuna. SKI and MOUNTAIN WALKS The Pyrennean ski resorts are one to two hours drive and provide extensive skiing and wonderful summer walking - especially Vall de Nuria with its funicular railway ascent.
