Almachar is a large traditional white village (pueblo blanco) in the foothills of the mountains north east of Malaga, surrounded by vineyards, almond and olive trees. It’s about 45mins drive from Malaga airport and 20mins from the coast.
The Cadogan Guide (2007) says about Almachar: "Almachar is an exquisite little village of tumbling houses and winding streets.... In spring and summer, the town is a riot of colours, with flowers spilling from every balcony, patio and window box"
The village and those nearby are noted for their many fiestas and events, including the Three Kings at Xmas, Easter and Semana Santa processions, cultural events, Romerias (Gypsy horse fiestas) and autumn wine and food fiestas
Almachar has many small shops, bars and places to eat. It has two banks with ATMs, two swimming pools (one for adults and one for children), with a bar, open throughout the summer, a childrens playpark, a cultural centre and a dentist and health centre. There are many fiestas in the village throughout the year. It is ideally situated for walking, birdwatching, painting and exploring the cities, coast and countryside of Andalucia.
